Roblox turned 20 in 2026. Founder and CEO David Baszucki has written that he and Erik Cassel founded Roblox in 2006, and the anniversary event covered games from every year since 2006.

What did Roblox do for its 20th anniversary?

It ran The Hunt: Roblox 20 from September 17 to 28, 2026, offered a limited-time Classic app theme with the old logo, colors and font, and celebrated the milestone at RDC 2026.

Can I still use the Classic app theme?

The theme was available to all players during the event. Roblox said active Roblox Plus subscribers keep it after the event ends.

Did the anniversary give away free Robux?

No. Roblox did not announce any Robux giveaway for the anniversary. Event rewards were virtual avatar items, and any site promising anniversary Robux is a scam.

Roblox Turns 20: The Anniversary Event and Key Dates

Roblox turned 20 in 2026, and it marked the date in September with a platform-wide event, a throwback look for the app and a celebration at its developer conference. This page lists what actually happened, plus a short timeline of dates Roblox itself has published. The event ended on September 28, 2026.

How old Roblox is

Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki wrote in 2024: “When Erik Cassel and I founded Roblox in 2006…”. The anniversary event used the same starting point, letting players play top games “from each year since 2006.” That makes 2026 the 20th year.

You will see other dates online, including claims about a specific launch day. Roblox’s own posts we checked give the year, not a day, so we leave it at 2006.

What Roblox did for the anniversary

Date (2026)	What happened
September 10-12	RDC 2026 in San Jose; Roblox celebrated 20 years with creators
September 17	The Hunt: Roblox 20 opens (Roblox Plus early access at 9 AM PT, everyone at 3 PM PT)
September 17-28	Classic app theme available to all players
September 19	Secret path inside The Hunt begins
September 28	The Hunt ends at 10 AM PT

The Hunt: Roblox 20 was the main anniversary event. Players moved through a hub, one year at a time from 2006 onward, finishing a quest in a game picked to represent each year. Our Hunt recap explains how the quests, the secret path and the prize worked.

The Classic app theme brought back the old Roblox logo, colors and font with one toggle on the device. Roblox said active Roblox Plus subscribers can keep it, along with a classic avatar background and profile frame, after the event.

At RDC, Baszucki’s post said players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox in the last quarter, across more than 180 countries. Our RDC 2026 summary covers what was announced there for players.

A short timeline from Roblox’s own posts

These are dates Roblox has published. We left out anything we could only find on fan wikis.

Year	Milestone	Where Roblox says it
2006	Roblox founded by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel	Baszucki’s RDC 2024 post
2013	Developer Exchange (DevEx) launches, letting creators cash out Robux	RDC 2026 post
2019	Roblox Premium replaces Builders Club (September 24)	Roblox newsroom
2026	Roblox Plus launches on April 30 at $4.99 USD a month	Roblox newsroom
2026	Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts go worldwide (June 16)	Roblox newsroom

Roblox says creators have earned more than $5 billion through DevEx since 2013. If your child is curious how that works, our DevEx explainer covers the rules.

What changed for kids in year 20

The biggest changes in 2026 were about safety, not games. Chat now needs an age check, and players under 16 are sorted into Roblox Kids (5-8) or Roblox Select (9-15) with their own game catalogs. If you set up controls before 2026, it is worth a second look:

Anniversary scams to watch for

Big events bring fake giveaways. Roblox did not announce any Robux giveaway for the 20th anniversary; the event rewards were avatar items earned inside the event games. A video, website or player offering “anniversary Robux” or a “birthday Dominus” in exchange for a login is a scam.

Parent note: a real Roblox event only asks your child to play games on Roblox. If anything asks for a password, a code from an email or a payment outside roblox.com, close it. Our page on why Robux generators are scams shows the common tricks.
