How to Sell Game Passes on Roblox: Setup, Pricing and Fees
Updated 2026-10-06 · 4 min read
Game passes are the simplest way for a Roblox creator to earn Robux: a player pays once and gets a permanent perk in your game. Setup takes a few minutes and costs nothing. The hard part is choosing a perk and a price that people actually want, so most of this guide is about that.
Passes vs developer products
Roblox gives creators two ways to sell inside a game. Pick the right one before you build.
| Game pass | Developer product | |
|---|---|---|
| Bought | Once per player | Again and again |
| Good for | VIP rooms, permanent tools, double coins, special trails | Coin packs, extra lives, one-time boosts |
| Owned forever | Yes | No, it is used up |
If the player would ever want to buy the thing twice, it is a developer product, not a pass.
How to create a pass
- Publish your game. A pass belongs to a published experience, so publish from Roblox Studio first.
- Open the Creator Dashboard at create.roblox.com and go to Creations, then choose your game.
- Go to Monetization, then Passes, and click Create a pass.
- Upload an icon. Roblox accepts jpg, png or bmp up to 512x512 pixels and shows it as a circle, so keep the important part in the center.
- Add a name, description and category that say exactly what the pass does. Vague names (“Mega Pack”) sell worse than clear ones (“2x Coins Forever”).
- Create the pass, then open its settings to set it for sale and choose a price.
- Make it Listed if you want it to show up outside your game. Roblox only shows Listed passes on surfaces like the home page and search.
- Script the perk. A short script checks whether a player owns the pass and grants the benefit. Roblox’s Creator Hub has sample code for this.
Test with a friend or an alt account before announcing it.
How much a creator keeps
Roblox’s monetization docs say creators generally earn 70% of what players spend in Robux in their game. Rough numbers:
| Pass price | Creator receives (about) |
|---|---|
| 25 Robux | 17 Robux |
| 100 Robux | 70 Robux |
| 250 Robux | 175 Robux |
| 500 Robux | 350 Robux |
Two related notes from Roblox:
- Roblox Plus discounts do not cut your earnings. Plus members may pay 10-20% less, but Roblox says it covers that discount, so the creator’s share per sale stays the same.
- Earned Robux can later be cashed out through the Developer Exchange once you reach 30,000 and meet the other requirements. See DevEx explained.
Choosing a price
There is no correct price, only one you test. Practical rules:
- Start low for a new game. A cheap first pass (25-100 Robux) turns players into buyers; you can add a premium pass later.
- Price by value, not effort. A pass that saves players lots of time can cost more than one that is purely cosmetic.
- Offer a ladder. One cheap, one mid, one bigger pass lets players choose.
- Watch the numbers for a week before changing the price, then change one thing at a time.
Roblox also lets creators opt passes into a promotion on the Buy Robux page. To qualify, the pass must be priced above 49 and below 801 Robux.
Rules that changed in 2026
- Cross-game sales are gone. Since May 30, 2026, a pass can only be sold in its own game. Roblox points creators who used to sell across games toward Robux transfers instead.
- Plus sign-up rewards. Roblox has an API that lets a game prompt players to join Roblox Plus. Roblox says it pays the creator up to 750 Robux per new subscriber (250 a month for three months).
Fair-play checklist
Passes that feel fair keep players coming back. Avoid these:
- Pay-to-win that ruins the game for everyone who does not pay.
- Misleading names or icons that promise more than the pass delivers. Players report these.
- Pressure tactics aimed at kids, such as countdown timers that are not real.
- Selling something Roblox’s rules forbid, like perks outside your game or anything tied to real money.
Parents can review our parents’ guide for spending limits on the buyer side, and creators should lock down their account with Roblox account security before money starts coming in.

Frequently asked questions
How much of a game pass sale do I keep?
Roblox says creators generally earn 70% of anything they sell for Robux inside their game. A 100-Robux pass earns about 70 Robux.
Do I need Roblox Plus to sell game passes?
No. Passes only need a published game. Plus or Premium 1000/2200 is required for publishing avatar items, not passes.
Can I sell a pass from a different game?
Not anymore. Roblox disabled cross-game pass sales on May 30, 2026. Sell each pass inside the game it belongs to.
Can I change a pass price later?
Yes. You can edit the price and sale status from the pass settings in the Creator Dashboard at any time.
