Minecraft Dungeons II is a new action game set in the Minecraft world, and it came out on September 29, 2026. It is a separate purchase from Minecraft, with a different kind of gameplay. This guide covers price, platforms, Game Pass, co-op and the rating, so you can decide before you buy.

Short answer: Minecraft Dungeons II is rated E10+ by the ESRB. On the Microsoft Store it costs $29.99, and it is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

What kind of game it is

Mojang calls Dungeons II an action-RPG. Players fight their way through areas full of mobs, collect loot, and follow a story. Unlike regular Minecraft, there is no mining or free building. The villains are the Illager High Council: the Prime Enchanter, the Supreme Evoker and the Grand Illusioner. The game also opens a new dimension called the Sift, which Mojang says is coming to regular Minecraft in 2027.

Compared with the first game, the sequel uses one connected world instead of separate levels, and players can now jump. You do not need to have played the first Minecraft Dungeons.

Price in the US and Canada

These are Microsoft Store prices we checked on October 10, 2026:

EditionUSCanada
Standard$29.99$39.99 CAD
Deluxe Edition$49.99$69.99 CAD
Deluxe upgrade (if you own the standard game)$19.99$29.99 CAD

The Deluxe Edition adds cosmetics: the Soul Cape, the Blub pet, four Fancy Hero skins, and two DLC packs when they are released. None of that is needed to finish the game. We did not check PlayStation, Nintendo or Steam prices, so look at each store before buying.

Platforms and Game Pass

PlatformAvailable
Xbox Series X|SYes
PlayStation 5Yes
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2Yes
Windows (Microsoft Store and Steam)Yes
Xbox One, PlayStation 4, phonesNot listed by Mojang

Xbox Wire confirmed Dungeons II for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day. If your family already pays for one of those plans, try it there before buying. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one Microsoft Store purchase covers both Xbox and Windows.

On PC, Mojang lists a 64-bit Windows 10 or newer system with at least 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 560 graphics card. It recommends 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 or RX 580.

Co-op, cross-play and the Hero Cape

Up to 4 players can team up. Mojang lists three ways:

  • Couch co-op on one screen.
  • Online play with cross-play between platforms.
  • Mixed co-op, where two or more players on one console join others online.

Online co-op on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch needs that platform’s paid online subscription.

The Hero Cape is a free cosmetic. If your child played the first Minecraft Dungeons with a Microsoft account and logs into Dungeons II with the same account before December 31, 2026, the cape shows up in Dungeons II and in Minecraft Java and Bedrock. Mojang says Game Pass and Steam play counts, and a player can also qualify by joining a friend’s co-op session.

Parent note

The ESRB rates Minecraft Dungeons II E10+ for Fantasy Violence and notes In-Game Purchases. The fighting is against Minecraft mobs and Illagers. The purchases are the Deluxe content and future DLC, so check your console’s spending settings before a child plays alone. Our Minecoins and Marketplace guide covers Minecraft’s other paid content.

If co-op with strangers worries you, keep online play to friends through your console’s family settings. A cape, skin or “free Deluxe” offer that asks for a Microsoft password is a scam. The real Hero Cape only needs a normal login inside the game. Our account security guide explains how to spot these tricks.
