99 Nights in the Forest is one of the most-played games on Roblox right now, with billions of visits on its page. The game page describes it in two lines: “Build a camp with friends. Something is watching you.” This guide covers what a new player needs for the first few nights, and what parents should know.
What the game is about
You start in a forest with a campfire. During the day you leave camp to gather wood, scrap and food. At night something hunts you, and the campfire’s light is your safe zone. The goal is in the title: last as many nights as you can.
The badges posted by the developers show the bigger picture:
- Survival milestones from 10 days up to 100 days, with extra badges for 250 and 500.
- A story goal to “locate and save the 4 missing children” hidden around the map.
- Fights against Cultists, who come to attack your campfire, and later a Cultist Stronghold to clear.
- A boss called the Frog King, and Blessings to find in caves.
Your first night: the campfire
The campfire is the center of everything.
- Feed it. Bring wood back to camp and add it to the fire. If the fire goes out, you lose your safe zone.
- Upgrade it. The fire has levels, and the developers give badges for reaching levels 3, 4 and 5. A bigger fire lights a bigger area, and a fully upgraded fire reveals the whole map.
- Defend it. Cultists will try to attack the fire. Stay close at night with a weapon and your team.
Do not wander far on the first evening. Gather near camp during the day and be back before dark.
The Deer and other night hunters
The main threat is the Deer. According to Pocket Tactics’ guide (updated September 24, 2026):
- It spawns in the forest at night and hunts players.
- It won’t enter the campfire’s safe zone.
- A flashlight stuns it, but it recovers faster each time.
- If your fire goes out, it can spawn right at your campfire.
- In snow or volcanic areas, the Owl or the Ram can take its place.
The safe habit is simple: when the light fades, head back to the fire.
Crafting, trading and teammates
Once you survive a few nights, the game opens up.
- Crafting bench: You build tools and items here, and you can upgrade the bench up to level 4. Scrap and wood are the main materials, and there is a badge for hoarding 100 or more of each.
- Traders: The badges mention a Tool Trader, a Pelt Trader with quests, and a Fairy who sells seeds for farming.
- Animals: You can tame animals as companions.
- Teammates: If a friend goes down, you can revive them with a Bandage or a Medkit. The Teamwork badge asks you to survive 99 days in a group of 5.
- Daily quests and the Fight Pit give extra goals between nights.
Pocket Tactics reported on October 4, 2026, that the current update is Helping Happy (October 3), and that every class can now be picked at any time from the shop.
Halloween in 99 Nights
The game page lists an event called “HALLOWEEN BEGINS,” starting October 17, 2026, at 1 PM Eastern Time. Nothing beyond the name and date is posted yet. Use the Notify Me button on the event to get a reminder, and see our Roblox Halloween 2026 page for other games’ dates.
Notes for parents
- Maturity label: Roblox labels the game Minimal, with Fear (Occasional, Mild) and Violence (Occasional, Mild). In our Roblox horror games guide, it is the mildest pick.
- Cost: The game is free to join. Optional passes cost Robux; the Decorator Pass was 199 Robux on October 10. A monthly cap through our spending limits guide keeps this predictable.
- Strangers: Servers hold up to 25 players, and teamwork is built in. Review chat settings in our Roblox parents’ guide.
- Scams: Players offering “free classes” or Robux through outside links are running a scam. See why Robux generators are scams and lock the account down with our account security checklist.
