Roblox Promo Codes: How They Work and How to Redeem Them
Updated 2026-10-06 · 4 min read
Roblox promo codes are short codes that unlock a virtual item, usually an avatar accessory, tied to an event, a giveaway or a partner promotion. They are real, but they are rarer and shorter-lived than the endless “working codes” lists online suggest.
This guide covers where real codes come from, the exact redeem steps, and how to tell a code list from a scam.
Codes we list (and why the list is short)
We only list a code when we can find it on a primary source (Roblox itself or the partner running the promotion) dated within the last 60 days. As of this update we could not confirm any active Roblox-wide promo code from a primary source, so we are not listing any.
Where real Roblox promo codes come from
According to Roblox’s help center, promo codes and promotional items come from a handful of places:
- Events and giveaways that Roblox runs or takes part in.
- Contest prizes, with rules posted on the event’s page or the Roblox blog.
- Gift card promotions, where buying a gift card can come with a bonus virtual item.
- Toy and retail codes, printed with some Roblox toys and products, redeemed for a matching virtual item.
Roblox also says that genuine promotions are announced through the Roblox blog, the Notifications area of your messages, or a banner on roblox.com. If a “code” only exists in a comment section or a random video, treat it with suspicion.
How to redeem a promo code, step by step
- Log in to the account that should get the item. Codes go to whoever is logged in.
- Go to the Redeem Roblox Codes page (roblox.com/redeem).
- Type the code exactly as written into the box.
- Click Redeem.
- Look for the success message. Depending on the code, you get an item, Robux or Credit.
Items show up in your inventory. To wear one, open the Avatar editor and find it in the matching category (hat, back accessory, and so on).
If the code doesn’t work
Roblox’s own troubleshooting list:
- Make sure you’re logged in before redeeming.
- Make sure you’re on the promo code redemption page, not the in-game codes box of some game.
- Re-type the code carefully.
- Check your inventory: you may already own the item.
If all of that checks out, the code has most likely expired.
Promo codes vs gift cards vs game codes
These three get mixed up constantly. A quick comparison:
| Type | Where it comes from | Where you redeem it | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Promo code | Roblox events, giveaways, partners | roblox.com/redeem | Usually one avatar item |
| Gift card | Bought at a store or online | roblox.com/redeem | Credit or Robux, sometimes a bonus item |
| In-game code | A game’s own developers | Inside that game | Boosts, in-game cash, cosmetics for that game only |
Gift cards add value converted to your account’s currency or Robux, depending on the card. Roblox notes that buying Robux on the web, on computers or with gift cards gives up to 25% more Robux than many in-app purchases. For game codes, see our pages for Blox Fruits codes and Grow a Garden codes.
How to spot a fake code list
Fake code pages are one of the most common ways scammers reach kids. Red flags:
- “Robux codes” or “free Robux codes.” Roblox states there is no such thing as free Robux codes or tricks. A code that “gives 10,000 Robux” does not exist.
- “Verify you’re human to unlock the code.” These surveys and app downloads earn money for the page owner. The code never appears.
- Asking for your username and password. No real code needs your password. Codes are typed only into roblox.com/redeem or inside a game.
- A countdown or “only 3 codes left.” Real promotions don’t pressure you with timers on a third-party page.
- Download required. Redeeming a code never needs an extra app or browser extension.
If you or your child entered a password on one of these pages, follow our account security checklist right away. For more on these schemes, read our guide to free-Robux scams, and for what actually works, see legit ways to get Robux.
A quick note for parents
Promo items are a fun, low-stakes part of Roblox, and redeeming one needs no payment or personal details. That makes “free item” a useful teaching moment: if a page asks for a password, money or a download in exchange for a code, it’s not a promotion. Our parents’ guide covers spending limits and chat settings that add a safety net.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I redeem a Roblox promo code?
Log in, go to the Redeem Roblox Codes page at roblox.com/redeem, type the code in the box and click Redeem. A success message appears if it worked.
Why does my promo code say it's invalid?
Most often it has expired, since Roblox says promo codes are often available for a limited time only. Also check for typos, that you are logged in to the right account, and whether you already own the item.
Are promo codes the same as codes inside games?
No. Roblox promo codes are redeemed on roblox.com. Codes for games like Blox Fruits or Grow a Garden come from each game's developers and are typed inside that game.
Can a promo code give free Robux?
A gift card or a code from Roblox itself can add Robux or Credit, but there are no secret Robux codes. Roblox says any offer of free Robux codes is a scam.
