Roblox DevEx Explained: Eligibility, Rates and How to Cash Out

The Developer Exchange (DevEx) is the only way to turn Robux into real money, and it only works for Robux that a creator earned on Roblox. This page covers who qualifies, what the current rates pay, what does and does not count, and how a cash-out works, using Roblox’s own help center and Creator Hub.

DevEx is never a way to cash out Robux someone bought, received as a gift or got from a card. Any site offering to "buy" your Robux for cash outside DevEx is breaking Roblox's rules and is often a scam.

Who is eligible

Roblox lists these requirements for each cash-out request:

  1. Age 13 or older.
  2. At least 30,000 Earned Robux in the account.
  3. A verified email address on the Roblox account.
  4. A valid DevEx portal account.
  5. A tax form: an IRS W-9 for US persons or a W-8 for non-US persons.
  6. Compliance with Roblox’s Terms of Use.

Canadian creators use the same program and are paid in US dollars, like everyone else.

Current DevEx rates

RateApplies toPer Robux30,000 Robux pays
StandardRobux earned on or after September 5, 2025$0.0038$114
PreviousRobux earned before September 5, 2025$0.0035$105
US 18+ rateEligible spending by verified US 18+ players, from June 8, 2026$0.0054$162

Notes on the rates:

  • Order of cash-out: Robux at the US 18+ rate cash out first, then older Robux at the previous rate, then the standard rate.
  • The US 18+ rate covers spending by verified US adults on developer products, passes, subscriptions and private servers. Roblox ties it to avatar requirements in the experience (R15 or a compliant custom rig; R6-only games do not qualify).
  • The DevEx dashboard at create.roblox.com/dashboard/devex shows your balance per rate. Roblox says it can lag up to 72 hours.

A worked example

Say a creator has 40,000 Earned Robux, all earned after September 5, 2025, and none from verified US adults at the 18+ rate. At $0.0038 per Robux, a cash-out of all 40,000 pays $152. If 10,000 of those Robux had been earned before September 5, 2025, those would cash out first at $0.0035 ($35), and the remaining 30,000 at $0.0038 ($114), for $149 in total. The DevEx dashboard shows how your balance splits across rates.

What counts as Earned Robux

CountsDoes not count
Game pass and developer product salesRobux bought with money
Marketplace and Creator Store salesRobux from gift cards
Creator RewardsPremium monthly stipends
Paid private servers and subscriptionsTrading and Limited resale
Publisher ad revenue and affiliate feesPasses on copied templates with no real visits
Earnings tied to moderated content

If the Robux did not come from players paying for something you made, assume it does not count.

How to cash out

  1. Open the Creator Dashboard and go to the DevEx section.
  2. Click Cash Out and enter the amount (30,000 Earned Robux minimum).
  3. First time only: create your DevEx portal account and submit the tax form and payout details.
  4. Review and submit. Roblox reviews each request.
  5. Wait for payment. Roblox estimates about 10 business days for a first request and about 5 for returning creators, plus bank processing time.

A note on taxes

Roblox collects a W-9 or W-8 because DevEx payouts can be taxable income. For a US creator, that usually means reporting it on a tax return; a Canadian creator should check how the CRA treats it. We are not tax advisors, and rules differ by situation, so a parent of a teen creator should talk to an accountant once payouts start. Keep a simple record of every cash-out and its date.

Common DevEx mistakes

  • Counting bought Robux. Only earned Robux show in the DevEx balance.
  • Expecting instant money. Even after approval, the bank transfer adds its own processing time.
  • Ignoring the 30-day Marketplace hold. Item sales take 30 days to become available, so they show up in DevEx later.
  • Trusting “Robux to cash” traders. Outside DevEx there is no safe way to sell Robux. See why generator sites are scams and Roblox account security.
