Minecraft is a one-time purchase, but the price depends on the device, and a few optional subscriptions can add a monthly bill. These are the store prices we checked in October 2026 for the US, plus the extras parents get asked about most.

Buy Minecraft only from minecraft.net, the Microsoft Store, your console's store or your phone's app store. Sites offering "free Minecraft" accounts or cheap keys are a common way to lose a Microsoft account.

Minecraft price by device

All current versions include both survival and creative modes. The PC version bundles Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in one purchase. Every other device gets Bedrock only. Our Java vs Bedrock guide explains the difference.

DevicePrice in the USWhere we checked
Windows PC (Java & Bedrock)$29.99 USDMicrosoft Store
Xbox$19.99 USDMicrosoft Store (Xbox)
iPhone and iPad$6.99 USDApp Store
Android$6.99 USDGoogle Play
PlayStation, Nintendo SwitchCheck the console’s storePlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop

Prices do not include sales tax, which is added at checkout in both countries. Stores run sales, so the number you see may be lower. Minecraft also offers a free trial on minecraft.net if your child wants to test it before you buy.

The ESRB rates Minecraft E10+ (Everyone 10+) for fantasy violence, and notes that online interactions are not rated. Our Minecraft vs Roblox comparison covers what that means in practice.

Realms: the optional private server

A Realm is a private world that Mojang hosts, so friends can join even when the owner is offline. Minecraft’s Realms page lists three plans in US dollars:

PlanEditionPlayers at oncePrice
RealmsBedrockYou + 2$3.99 USD/month
Realms PlusBedrockYou + 10$7.99 USD/month
RealmsJavaYou + 10$7.99 USD/month

Invited friends do not pay for the Realm, but each one needs their own copy of Minecraft. Our Realms setup guide for parents walks through plans and invites.

Marketplace, Minecoins and Marketplace Pass

The Marketplace is the in-game store for Bedrock. It sells skins, worlds, texture packs and add-ons for Minecoins, the game’s currency. You buy Minecoins with real money, and many Marketplace items cost Minecoins rather than dollars. Our Minecoins and Marketplace guide breaks down coin packs and refunds.

Marketplace Pass is a subscription that gives access to a rotating catalog of Marketplace content. Minecraft’s page lists it at $3.99 USD a month. Items in the pass rotate, so content your child likes can leave the catalog.

Turn on purchase approval before your child opens the Marketplace. In Microsoft Family Safety, “Require approval for every purchase” sends you a request each time they try to buy Minecoins or anything else in the Microsoft Store.

Game Pass and console memberships

When we checked, the Microsoft Store listed Minecraft for PC and for Xbox as included with some Game Pass plans. If your family already pays for Game Pass, check the store page for an included-with-Game-Pass label before buying the game separately. Games can leave Game Pass, and a copy you bought stays yours.

Playing online on a console usually needs that console’s paid membership on top of the game. Each console maker sets its own rules and prices, so check the membership page for your console. Phones, tablets and PCs do not need a membership for online play.

A sample first-year budget

For a child getting Minecraft on a Windows PC, a typical first year looks like this:

  1. The game: $29.99 USD, once.
  2. Optional Realm for playing with two friends: $3.99 USD a month in the US, only for the months you keep it.
  3. Optional Minecoins: whatever limit you set in Family Safety.

You can stop at step 1. On PC, single-player and joining a friend’s Realm work with just the game.

How we checked prices

We read the PC and Xbox prices from the Microsoft Store catalog for each country, the phone prices from the App Store and Google Play listings for each country, and the Realms and Marketplace Pass prices from minecraft.net. We left out PlayStation and Switch prices because we could not confirm one clear list price for each country.
